Students Together Achieving Revitalization

Mar 16, 2012

Many of San Antonio's historic neighborhoods have deteriorated for decades, threatening its connection to its heritage as well as lowering property values and safety.  In response, the City partnered with the University of Texas at San Antonio College of Architecture to create a volunteer program for students.  Through the program, more than 250 student volunteers worked to repair and maintain historic homes, gaining experience in construction techniques and technology in the process.  S.T.A.R. costs roughly $750 per house renovated and provides homeowners with up to $15,000 in benefits.

This case study was nominated for ICMA's Annual Awards Program.
