The City of Phoenix looked to replace its old municipal radio communications system with a newer, state-of-the-art version. Considering expansion and partnerships, the Regional Wireless Cooperative was formed to support interoperational partnership and cooperation. Each partner is able to achieve region-wide coverage at the same or nearly the same cost as for local coverage.
Each member recieves the benefits of wide, modernized radio communication coverage as well as input on the cooperative. Costs are reduced and the system is more reliable and efficient with more partners and more coverage.
This case study was nominated for ICMA's Annual Awards Program.
