European Union’s Approach to Waste Management

The EU’s waste policy has evolved over the last 30 years through a series of environmental action plans and a framework of legislation that aims to reduce negative environmental and health impacts and create an energy and resource-efficient economy. The Waste Framework Directive provides a general framework for waste management and prevention in the EU.

The Waste Management Technologies in Regions (WMTR) activity is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development through a four-year cooperative agreement under the CityLinks™ Leader with Associates program.
