The Bionomic Educational Training Center (BETC, pronounced “Betsy”) program was created to improve water quality via stormwater retrofit designs and implementation by creating a workforce development training program for at risk youth. Students are educated about urban stormwater pollution and Best Management Practices (BMPs) to improve water quality.
The teachers receive relevant, innovative E-STEM curriculum to engage students in required high school courses such as Earth Science, Biology, and Math I. They also receive extended training opportunities to enhance classroom pedagogical skills while connecting students with community leaders that leads to improving overall water quality in Durham through real-world retrofits.
