As Alliance for Innovation (AFI) continues to pioneer and establish best practices for local government and help leaders improve their communities, the organization is excited to announce three new faces joining the AFI board in 2020: Dr. Peter Pirnejad of Oracle, Gordon Feller of the Meeting of the Minds and Eric Sandoval of the City of Salinas.
Dr. Peter Pirnejad
is Senior Director for Global Public Sector Strategy for Oracle. A native of California, he brings over 20 years of award-winning public sector experience to this role, including serving as the Assistant City Manager/Development Services for the City of Napa; the Director of Development Services for the City of Palo Alto and the Assistant Director of Economic and Community Development for Daly City. He holds an M.A. and a doctorate in policy, planning and development from the University of Southern California. A resident of Mountain View, California, he is a frequent speaker on government technology issues.
Dr. Pirnejad is joining the AFI board in 2020 based on “the opportunity to partner with cities to inspire collaborative innovation throughout local government.”
is Co-Founder of Meeting of the Minds, a global leadership network and knowledge-sharing platform focused on urban sustainability, connected technology and innovation. A resident of San Francisco and a demonstrated tech leader, Gordon serves as a board member and/or consultant for numerous leading organizations — including national and local governments; non-profits; private companies and startups. Gordon holds a Masters from Columbia University New York City where he received his undergraduate degree. He brings four decades of experience helping governments and technology companies to work together as they jointly develop effective and affordable technologies.
“AFI became a leader through the hard work of its staff and Board and members. Joining now, with the Board, gives me a chance to see them all in action, and to contribute what I can, drawing on my own networks.“
is the Smart City Program Coordinator, GIS Administrator and Innovation Team Lead for the City of Salinas, CA. He specializes in solving complex data challenges backed by over 20 years of experience in management and technology; as a registered GIS Professional since 2009, Eric serves the City of Salinas through data analysis, system design and change management. He holds a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University and an M.S. from CSU Monterey Bay and currently serves as a nextERA Committee Member, positioning himself as an ideal candidate for the 2020 AFI board.
“I look forward to working with such a dynamic group of individuals and I’m excited to contribute to the good work that AFI proposes for the next year.”
Through these visionary Board Members, the organization is confident that its events, programs, and offerings — including the members who utilize them — will benefit from this addition in leadership.
