Recent success in attracting major companies like Rioglass Solar and Gestamp Solar Steel means hundreds of new jobs for Surprise, but Surprise economic development officials continue to emphasize the importance of retail small business.
Now, the City wants to know what citizens think. They asked via a survey “Do you love a particular shop, restaurant or entertainment spot you wish was closer to home?” Surprise has launched an online survey site for residents to vote for their favorites.
“Businesses love to know their customers are looking for them,” says Surprise Community and Economic Development Director Jeff Mihelich. “By getting residents involved, we hope to have enough information to contact the top two or three and show them their next expansion should be in Surprise.”
The survey, at www.surpriseaz.gov, asked residents to name the business they want to see in Surprise, and provide as much information about the business as possible, “though we don’t need a lot of detail,” Mihelich says. “Just tell us what you know and we will take it from there.”
Economic Development staffers will use the information as part of their recruitment efforts at conventions and other business attraction venues.
The City does not know yet how long the poll will stay online, but Mihelich promises regular updates. “We hope people respond, and one way to keep interest high is to post updates on which businesses are getting the most votes,” he adds.
Mihelich also points out businesses love to hear from satisfied customers. “After you vote, be sure to tell them the next time you are in,” he says. “Let them know you are a supporter and want to see them in Surprise.”
