IT Solutions Engineer

In this position, you will ensure IT (Information Technology) solutions meet the business requirements and needs of the City. You will ensure delivered solutions are secure, align with business goals and needs, support a common operating environment and user interaction model, use supported City technology platforms, and deliver quality and scale. Solutions include networking, systems and applications, general hardware and infrastructure, security, backup, recovery and archiving, and data storage.

You will work closely with the IT BRM (Business Relationship Manager) to ensure a clear requirement is documented and understood to create a valid and business-accepted solution, while ensuring IT and its customers receive optimized business value from IT investments.

Essential Job Functions:
Ensure that developed hardware, software, or IT solutions meet the requirements of the business and fit within IT architecture based on industry best practices
Work with the BRM to translate business requirements into fully engineered solution designs that can be implemented on current and future City IT
Partner with the BRM to understand business unit strategy and develop strategic and tactical solutions
Investigate IT hardware, software, and services that might support one or more City business processes
Lead the engineering design of solutions, ensuring functionality, availability, capacity, system and data security, integration, infrastructure, operations, maintenance, and performance
Ensure quality control methods are applied to delivered solutions
Coordinate with IT supervisors when matrixed support for solution research or development is required
Formulate and execute solutions for customers across multiple current and future service offerings
Drive an end-to-end solution development lifecycle
Enable customers to better understand the scope of IT solutions and business value and efficiencies
Support a service management culture across the technology organization
Develop Rough Order Magnitude estimates and Solution Design Packages by working with cross-functional teams to define business service request requirements, solutions, and schedules
Provide expert-level support when needed by other teams within IT to solve complex problems or support design implementations
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:
Design techniques for business applications, related databases, and web technologies
Technical specifications and design documents
Business application and database best practices
Current plus prior two versions of Microsoft Desktop and Server operating systems
Hardware and software security best practices
Operations, maintenance, and security of Cisco Platforms
Perimeter security and technologies
Virtualization technologies
Pertinent federal, state, and local government processes
Multi-vendor environments
Ability to:
Work independently and as a member of a team at a fast pace to keep up with the new solutions demand
Integrate industry experience and deep professional/technical knowledge
Break down highly complex technical topics into language and diagrams understandable by the requesting business unit and executive sponsors
Investigate and consume the technical details of multiple IT hardware and software platforms and incorporate them into technical solution designs
Conceptualize, model, design, and effectively communicate solutions
Develop solutions that are appropriate to the opportunity at hand in terms of simplicity, cost, and supportability
Operate in an IT Service Management, specifically ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) based environment.
Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, with users and technical support
Successful candidate will have:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, network engineering, information management, or a related field. Significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Three years of full-time professional end-to-end solution development experience across a wide range of hardware and software technologies and sourced services
Possess a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Possess, or obtain within six months of hire, CompTIA Security+ and ITIL Foundations certifications
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
Solution delivery experience within a state, county, or city government environment
Application technical solution engineering experience within a Microsoft environment
Virtualization and/or storage experience
Certified as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Expert (MCSE), Developer (MCSD) Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Web Applications, or a CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Additional Information:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment.

This position requires solution engineering, design development, analysis, technology research, deployment, and business communication skills.
