The City of Henderson, located in Clark County with a growing population of 286,000, is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area encompassing 105 square miles along the southeastern portion of the Las Vegas Valley. Incorporated in 1953, Henderson has developed into a community with premier services and amenities. With a 95% resident satisfaction rate, this community enjoys the benefits of being the largest full service city in the State of Nevada providing police, fire, emergency medical services, water, and wastewater services. Henderson provides this full array of services while having the lowest property tax of Nevada’s largest cities.

The Director of Economic Development and Tourism provides leadership, strategic direction, and program implementation for the Department. The Director of Economic Development and Tourism is responsible for leading the City’s efforts in recruiting businesses and implementing programs to assist local business retention and expansion and developing and implementing the Economic Development Strategy to attract new target industries.

Ideal candidates are well rounded economic development professionals with in-depth knowledge and experience in economic development, tourism and destination marketing. Candidates who possess strong management abilities and a big picture orientation will be successful in this role. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential; candidates who are comfortable in making public presentations will be favorably considered. Ideal candidates will be team-oriented managers who seek ways to mentor and grow their professional staff. Ideal candidates will possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the proven ability to effectively engage the City’s numerous internal and external customers, including the experience/ability to successfully interface with elected officials.

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Geography, Urban Planning or closely related field is required, along with ten years of progressively responsible economic development experience, three years of which were at the supervisory level. Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) by the International Economic Development Council and a Master’s Degree are desirable.
