Building Diverse Organizations -
Summer
2008
Building
diverse organizations that reflect the character of our
communities is a difficult task. Not only should our
organizations reflect different ethnic dimensions, we must
be concerned about diversity in thought and culture. This
webcast features a discussion on how diversity adds to the
rich dimensions that are possible when we embrace diversity
and the differences among us.

Creating Safe Places
WorkshopThere is a
direct relationship between the way we create and maintain
our physical environment and the likelihood that crime will
take place there. This one day interactive workshop will
help you better understand that relationship and guide you
in the use of certain crime prevention strategies in dealing
with new or existing facilities and developments.
During this workshop you will learn about defensible space
and its importance, strategies to include in new
development, why the existing built environment may be
promoting criminal activity, how to apply environmental
crime prevention strategies to reduce/remove a problem, the
proper use of lighting to deter crime, and how to get the
community, and property owners more involved in problem
solving. The workshop is offered as a convenient
one-day class that is interactive. Two complimentary
seats provided to the host agency and every attendee
receives a CPTED workbook Planning, development, code
enforcement, and police teams from within the same agency

Local Government Core Management
Skills Seminar
This
two day seminar focuses on giving participants new and
revolutionary ways of approaching those they serve and
supervise. The Core Management Skills seminar deals with
leadership in supervising service excellence, leadership to
motivate work group members to high performance and skills
for efficiently managing quality public services.
The
seminar is based on over a decade of research into what
local government supervisors want to learn to do their jobs
better. Several thousand local government supervisors have
completed versions of this course. Don Moore, facilitator of
the Local Government Core Management Skills Seminar is
coauthor of Trustworthy Leadership and creator of a wide
variety of prolific supervisory training for both the public
and private sectors. This is a one of a kind opportunity for
local governments. Due to the nature of the course, and the
constant interaction among participants and facilitator,
class sizes are limited.
Performance Measures: What Counts Workshop
While
performance measurement is a tool used by most local
government organizations, the common understanding necessary
to make measuring meaningful throughout the organization is
still lacking. Finding meaningful measures that are geared
at the service level can seem like a daunting task. This
one-day workshop is designed to help supervisors to
translate an organization's performance measurement system
into meaningful action.
This workshop will assist the performance measurement novice
to be able to speak the language of measurement and
understand the reasons the organization needs measuring in
order to effectively plan and implement organizational
goals. The end result being a deeper understanding of how
each service area is tied to the overall success of the
government as an organization.
