From underutilized to community assets; maximizing under-performing property

Eight years ago the of City of New Smyrna Beach began a practice of looking at underutilized City properties in a new way; with vision for what could be and an entrepreneurial spirit, the e team effort including the City Manager, CRA, planning and economic development began exploring conveyance of such properties to new owners in significant, impactful, and innovative ways. Successful in creatively transferring properties in eight projects, most provide redevelopment that has increased investment to the city tax base by $13 million, created over 45 jobs, redeveloped blighted areas, brought new residents and created collaborations with city staff and community partners.
