The School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University (ASU) partnered with the Alliance for Innovation to conduct a study of U.S. military veteran recruitment and hiring in local governments. Drs. Justin Stritch, Ulrich Jensen, and David Swindell identified all human resource directors in Alliance for Innovation member local governments to participate in a survey to collect information on their thoughts and perspectives on veteran hiring in their local government. The goal was to gain insights at an organization-level perspective on this issue. It is hoped that the findings will provide information helpful to better understanding U.S. military veteran hiring in local governments and is part of a larger effort to help attract more veterans to careers in local public service. Initial results from the survey are presented in the handout and highlight several preliminary insights that will help tailor actions for local government managers interested in increasing veteran hiring.
