In addition to the three pilot ICMA Student Chapters, eight additional universities established chapters during the fall. The complete roster of chapters is:

  1. University of Alabama at Birmingham
  2. Northern Illinois University
  3. Indiana University
  4. Appalachian State University
  5. Brigham Young University
  6. Cornell University
  7. The George Washington University
  8. Norwich University
  9. University of Kansas
  10. University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh
  11. Villanova University

ICMA is creating program content that engages and excites current MPA / MPP students about the profession of city/county management. Through ICMA Student Chapters, we also hope to attract undergraduate students who are interested in public service, but may not be aware of career possibilities in local government.

Each chapter will soon have groups in ICMA’s Knowledge Network, where chapter members will be able to engage with members from other universities as well as professionals in the field. By establishing a chapter, universities provide unlimited student membership to all students enrolled in the chapter.

In order to start an ICMA Student Chapter, chapters need:

  • A chapter president
  • A faculty advisor at the school
  • An ICMA member manager.

If you are interested in starting a chapter at your alma mater or if you are a student or professor and would like to establish at chapter, send an email to careers@icma.org for complete ICMA Student Chapter details.
